Why Pune Should Be On Your Bucket List

If history excites you, then the first place you should check out should be Shaniwar Wada. But maybe take a few steps back and around the block you will also witness the Laal Mahal. Once you enter the Mahal, after leaving your shoes at the gate, you will be welcomed into a big open hall where the walls will have the entire storyline of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, as this was his childhood residence. The walls of the hall will illustrate the history of the fort in form of classic paintings and you will find the statue of Shivaji Maharaj’s mother in the center of it all.

Your next step should be Shaniwar Wada, which was the palace of the Peshwas. The inside of the Shaniwar Wada is what remains of the fort mixed with the exemplary garden beauty. As you roam along you will find different labels of stones which explain what was earlier on that particular spot and what was its importance. Visiting this place will warm up the historic side of you.

If you are a museum-kind-of person, then you should definitely check out Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum which is a collection of the Indian artefacts by Dr. Dinker G. Kelkar. But if history bores you, then why not turn towards nature? Okayama Friendship Garden is one of the most visited but yet a vey calm place to be at. The fountains, the lush greenery and the entire ambience will surely put you at peace. Katraj Snake Park and the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, both next to each other, in Katraj, is another mind blogging place. The scenery and the animals will make you not want to leave the place at all.

Pune’s night life has a different feel to it and to properly experience it one should go to Baner. The clubs, pubs, resto-bars, cafes, shopping centers- lifts up one’s energy. But when it comes to shopping, FC road and MG road are the real deal. You get clothes, accessories, jewelry, makeup all in good quality and that too cheap. Not just that the food there will leave your mouth watering. The famous Camp Burger is a people’s favorite and so is the Shawarma! If you want to really excel at the street food, then the Khaugallis are a must try.

For a devotional person, Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple and the Five famous Manache Ganapati of Pune would be like heaven. The bustling crowd, eagerly and patiently waiting in lines to see Bappa and the whole pious air makes you wish the Ganapati season comes back soon.

Does the city life take a toll on you? Would you like to go for a road trip and get near the sunset? Then the sunset point of the Khadakwasla Dam would do you good. Away from the city crowds, accompanied by the hot tea from the stalls near by, the water and sunset of the dam will give you enough peace.

Pune is known as the cultural capital for a reason. It has everything you are looking for. So why wait? Why not already add Pune to your bucket list? Why? Well, because “Pune Tithe Kay Une”.
