New Delhi: S. Jaishankar’s Words on Canada in Press Conference.

At the NDTV World Summit today, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke about Canada-India diplomatic relations. During S. Jaishankar’s Press Conference, he highlighted Canada’s issue with Indian diplomats gathering information. In an interview with Sanjay Pugalia, he criticized these different standards, saying, “Double standards is a very mild word for it.”

Tensions escalated after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. His Press Conference revealed the lowest point in diplomatic relations: the tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats. He explained, “Canada asked us to subject our High Commissioner to a police inquiry.” India chose to withdraw him. Canada seems to have an issue with Indian diplomats addressing security concerns in Canada.

Further, S. Jaishankar’s Press Conference discussed freedom of speech, pointing out Canada’s contradictory stance. “When we tell them people threaten Indian leaders and diplomats, they call it freedom of speech.” However, when an Indian journalist reports on the Canadian High Commissioner, it’s labeled as foreign interference. Jaishankar also noted, “Canadian intelligence, possibly backed by Five Eyes allies, indicated India’s involvement in the killing of a Canadian on Canadian soil.”

While interacting with senior journalists during a visit here, he also said the country needs a strong and active Prime Minister like Narendra Modi. In order to bring further reforms in various sectors to make a “Viksit Bharat”. If you have not a single evidence, then don’t try to put allegation on us.
