Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin criticized the BJP led central government for the alleged Hindi imposition through NEP’s three language formula. He emphasized the South’s lack of Tamil promotion in the North. Tamil Nadu opposes the policy, fearing Hindi dominance over regional languages. While BJP refutes claims, maintaining NEP’s focus on promoting all Indian languages.

Stalin said that unlike in the South, no initiative was taken in the North to propagate Tamil learning. The DMK chief said north Indians were never asked to learn Tamil to “preserve” the language and asked the BJP to leave “Tamil Nadu alone”.

The three-language formula under the NEP 2020 promotes multilingualism while ensuring flexibility in language learning. It mandates that students learn three languages, with at least two being Indian languages. States schools choose the languages they offer.
